Non-Traditional Christmas

As the holiday season ramps up, the first thing that comes to mind for many are the traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. For some it might be cutting down a fresh Christmas tree, baking Christmas cookies to share with loved ones, or singing Christmas carols. Before you jump back into your familiar holiday routine, here are a few new non-traditional ways to celebrate the season that might be fun to incorporate this year. Who knows, they might become the traditions of future generations.

Engage > Exchange
When the holiday season rolls around, you automatically start thinking about gifts. What to buy, how much it will cost, will they actually like the gift, etc. Don’t sweat over the stress of giving the right gift this year. Instead, invest in experiences that will bring everyone closer together. Make a reservation at a local restaurant so that everyone can enjoy a nice meal together or head to your local movie theater to watch the newest superhero movie.

Give the Gift of Christmas
The holiday season can be financially stressful for many. Consider finding someone who can’t afford the Christmas experience and gift it to them. You can do things like, give them an old Christmas tree that you don’t use anymore, offer to hang Christmas lights at their house or bring them a home cooked holiday meal. Plus, making others feel good makes ourselves feel good – Win, win!

Handmake the Holidays
Get crafty this year and make your gifts by hand. This is the perfect opportunity for you and your family to create gifts rather than purchase material items for each other. Making items such as photo albums, scrapbooks, or Christmas goodies can mean so much more vs. picking up something generic from the store.
