You’ve just received the keys to your new apartment, unpacked all of your belongings & made the space your own. Moving into your apartment isn’t just about arranging your bedroom & laying area rugs – it’s also about taking the necessary steps to ensure that your new home is as safe and secure as possible.

Keeping your space safe doesn’t take a lot of work & doesn’t cost a lot of money either! Follow our tips on how you can keep your apartment safe & secure at all times.

Know Thy Neighbors
It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but getting to know your neighbors can be extremely helpful when it comes to the security of your apartment. Neighbors will be able to report any fishy activity going on when you’re away. The more eyes on look out, the better!

Close your Blinds
There are so many benefits to opening your blinds & letting the sun shine in. Natural sunlight promotes productivity & happiness, boosts your body’s Vitamin D production and helps cut costs on utility expenses. However, If left open for too long, anyone peeking in will be able to see the type of lifestyle you live, expensive electronics, computers, etc.

Don’t be too Social
social media is a great tool when used properly! We all enjoy sharing our location, vacation pictures & reviews, but we don’t think that in a way we are telling intruders that our home is empty. Intruders can monitor your social media activity when you’re not home, and break in while you’re away.

Keep it Safe
When intruders enter your home, they want to be in and out as quickly as possible, with as much stuff as possible. They’re searching for things of value that are easy to carry.

Burglars usually head straight to the bedroom since that’s where most people keep their valuables. Don’t fit the mold & keep your prize possessions out of sight. Invest in a portable safe that is too heavy to be carried with ease!
