Mills Property Management is proud to offer affordable housing in many communities throughout Eastern South Dakota. Affordable housing is designed to meet the needs of applicants who qualify under the income limit guidelines set by each government program. Several different government programs regulate housing. Two of the programs Mills Property Management works closely with are Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 8 subsidized properties and USDA Rural Development (RD) properties. Both programs have subsidies available to tenants that income qualify.
Applications for Affordable Housing can be found on our website, at any of our office locations, or can be mailed to applicants who do not have access to a computer. Each section of the application has easy to follow instructions, and our staff is trained to assist with completing the application as needed.
Mills Property Management has a specialized Compliance Department available to assist applicants throughout the application process.
Our compliance team members attend annual training on changes in the government housing programs and are up to date on current regulations and rules. Applicants are encouraged to request information from the Compliance Department or the onsite property manager if they have any questions during the application process.
After completing the application, the applicant will go through the screening process. Each applicant is screened on three criteria: credit, landlord history, and criminal activity. After the applicant passes screening, our compliance department will verify all income, assets, and deductions (if applicable). After everything has been third party verified, the subsidy amount is determined, a lease can be signed and the tenant will be allowed to move in!
