Did you know that 70 percent of all moves take place between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend? Yes, that means we are officially in “peak moving season”. While lifting boxes and furniture isn’t easy, adding the sweltering temperatures can make the process of moving seem like an impossible task. We’ve included 5 tips to help you out in this summer’s heat.

  1. Wear the right clothing
Make sure you wear clothing that is made with lightweight, loose-fitting, and breathable fabric. These materials do a great job at absorbing moisture, which allows faster evaporation so you will stay dry during the move.
  2. Bring a large supply of bottled water
Staying hydrated during the summer months is extremely important, especially if you’re moving. When lifting boxes & coordinating a big moving day you’re going to be sweating A LOT. If you’re not hydrating your body with enough water, you could experience symptoms of dehydration.
  3. Wear sunscreen
Sunburns are fun… said no one ever. Make sure you and anyone helping you move is applying sunscreen throughout the day.
  4. Pace yourself
You shouldn’t overdo it when moving under any conditions, especially in the excessive heat. Make time for breaks throughout the day where you are able to get out of the direct sunlight.
  5. Make sure your utilities are turned on
Prior to your move-in day, check to see if your utilities are already turned on. By ensuring your utilities are on, you will be able to run the A/C, plug in fans, and drink water from the tap.
