Living alone for the first time can be exciting, liberating, amazing and intimidating all at once. Those who are embarking on a new life adventure can face feelings of isolation, depression & loneliness. Keep some of our tips in your back pocket if you are soon to be flying solo!
Make the Space Your Own
This might be the first time you have a space to yourself, so take advantage! Decorate your place, arrange your furniture exactly how you want to & display art work that sets your soul on fire. Also, consider adding a few plants here and there. Indoor plants can really brighten up a room and improve your overall well-being.
Try New Things
Finding new hobbies or interests is a big part of self-discovery. If you find yourself with some spare time on your hands, try something new! Visit your local library, do some research on your family history, try cooking a recipe from a different culture, or learn a skill you’ve always wanted to master.
Health is Wealth
One big upside of living alone is that you don’t have to look after anyone other than yourself. Use this chapter in your life to establish healthy habits that are simple yet effective.
Some healthy habits you can try out are:
- Set aside some time every week for meal planning, grocery shopping & meal prep. Stocking your kitchen with healthy choices will keep you from relying on fast-food and processed snacks.
- Move your body! Regular exercise not only helps prevent a laundry list of health risks, but it does wonders for your mental health too! Bonus points if you can find a workout buddy who can hold you accountable.
- Get a good night’s sleep to set yourself up for a productive day ahead.
Stay Social
We all know how easy it is to slip into your sweat pants & binge watch your favorite series. This is acceptable every once in a while, but don’t make this a habit! Fight off feelings of loneliness and isolation by going out or hosting guests. This might mean volunteering at your local animal shelter, visiting the nearest farmers market or hosting game night at your apartment.
