What’s left of 2020 and warmer temperatures are quickly slipping away from us! Winter weather seems to sneak up on us in South Dakotans earlier than we expect it to. Before the snow starts to fly, don’t forget about preparing your apartment for the upcoming frigid temps.
- Swap out your bedding
One of the first items you can check off of your preparation to-do list is switching out your bedding. While most people use light & cool cotton sheets during the summer months, it’s a good idea to throw on some flannel sheets or thicker bedding before it gets too cold outside. - Reverse your ceiling fan
Did you know that there is a small switch on the side of most ceiling fans? Most people haven’t given a second thought to what that switch does. If you’ve got a ceiling fan in your apartment, flip that switch and you’ll change the rotation of your fan. Reversing the fan rotation pulls air upwards rather than push it down through out the room. - Embrace indoor plants
The winter months can be depressing for some, as most days are cold, gloomy & dark. The beautiful colors of fall go away way too quickly & are replaced with a blanket of white snow. If you are someone who thrives off of the beautiful foliage of summer & fall, invest in some indoor plants! Not only are they great decorations, they also improve the atmosphere of the room. - Winter essentials kit
The snow and ice will be here before we know it, and it’s a good idea to stock up on supplies before an extreme weather event hits. Some items you should always have on hand are nonperishable food items, flashlights, chargers & batteries, drinking water & blankets/warm clothing.
