For many Americans, working from home is the new normal. Here are a few tips on how to get your workspace running smoothly AND looking great.
Picking the Right Spot
The first & maybe the most important step is to choose a spot where you’ll be the most productive. If you live in a smaller apartment, you might not have a ton of options, but you’ll want to pick an area that is out of the way. Ideally, you want to set up shop in an area that has a lot of natural lighting & is away from all distractions (AKA snacks).
Create Boundaries
Establishing boundaries while working in the same space you also eat, sleep, entertain, etc. is extremely important. In order to stay motivated and happy working from home, you’ll need to set rules & create a routine. A few tips include setting scheduled “work hours”, taking a lunch break, getting dressed & ready for the day and taking your days off seriously.
Do a Background Check
If video calls are party of your new work from home experience, please think of what your co-workers are seeing behind you – like that pile of dirty dishes or the overflowing trash can. Do your best to keep things clean & uncluttered. If you’ve got the space, flaunt your personal style with family pictures, a favorite piece of art, interesting souvenirs or an UNCLUTTERED bookcase.
Set the Mood
A lot of us probably didn’t have our “dream office” while we weren’t working from home, so now is your chance! Maybe scented candles weren’t allowed in the office, but now you can embrace your favorite fall scent any time of year without the judgement. You can even listen to your favorite playlist out loud as you sip on a homemade iced latte… while working (of course)!
The main takeaway from this article is to create a space & atmosphere where you are comfortable, motivated & happy.
